| Thursday, 04 November 2010 14:18 | I spoke at the Fabtech 2010 conference in Atlanta Georgia this week, and as I walked thru the displays and talked to numerous manufacturer's...the same theme kept coming up. We need skilled workers, but we can't find them! In a recent publication AMTEC wrote; "in the 21st century, every job is a knowledge job, and every worker is a knowledge worker. Every technical workplace is a fast paced environment in which mid-level employees must know how to function as individuals and as a team amid rapid technology changes, how to asses information, and how to diagnose problems quickly, using problem-solving and critical thinking skills to make split-second decisions". Couldn't have said it better myself! I created Interactive Training Systems to address these pressing problems. How to get information in the hands of the Technical Worker of the 21st century quickly and accurately, using the latest technology to present information when and where it is needed to reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and increase Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). | Tuesday, 12 October 2010 11:55 | Everywhere I go and talk to manufacturer's...we dance around the same subject. New Manufacturing jobs are coming, but few are preparing for this inevitability. By the time we are ready to hire it will be too late! There hasn't been a meaningful apprenticeship program in a generation. Colleges are working with outdated technology. Manufacturer's don't have the resources to train in-house. We are about to see the largest Brain-Drain from the manufacturing floor in history as the current generation of workers prepares for retirement...SOON. How do we capture that knowledge before it goes out the door, and how do we pass it on to the next generation worker? Stay tuned.... | |
